Life in Newtown, CT: Sorry, We're Not Open Now

Sorry, We're Not Open Now

Sorry, We're Not Open Now  Yesterday, Richelle took our grandson with her to buy him a "big boy seat" for the car.  Richelle decided to try one of the local second hand stores as we don't have our grandson often.  So, they get to the store, Richelle unloads our grandson from the car & they make their way across the parking lot to the store - pocketbook in hand & ready to purchase a new car seta.  They step up on the curb right in front of the store to see the employees dragging items out of the store for display outside.  One of the store employees looks over and says, "Sorry, We're Not Open Now"  It was 10:35 am and the store opens at 11:00 am.  So, Richelle and our grandson went to Target and purchased a brand new "big boy seat".

 Sorry we're closed sign

This got us thinking ...

Sure, Richelle could have stood around with a 3 year old outside waiting for the store to open.  She'd never shopped at that store before - never even been inside it before.  It wasn't like 10:35 on a Sunday morning was an unreasonable time to expect a store to be open (it appeared that the other stores in the complex were all open).  Her expectation of the store being open at that time wasn't out of line.

The local second hand store lost a sale yesterday.  Not only did the second hand store miss out on a sale yesterday, but they also missed out on potential referrals.

A ready and willing buyer wanted to walk through the door to buy and was turned away.  How often does this happen in real estate?

Imagine that you want to purchase a home - or sell a house.  You contact a local Real Estate Office or Realtor and no one answers during normal business hours.  You move on to the next company or Realtor.  How many calls do you need to make before you find someone who is open?

Sorry, We're Not Open Now  Makes you think, doesn't it?

Your store example could also apply to sellers who insist on tedious showing instructions such as a days notice, etc.  That's a really cute canine kid in your pic -- what kind is it.  He/she looks very supportive.

This happens far too much in retail. I got into Real Estate knowing that it's a 24-7 business. You would think it would be safe to assume other realtors have the same intention, but sadly, not the case!

Wish you told me you needed an extra car seat! I have a garage full!
