The Victory Garden in Newtown, CT Yesterday, our friend, Paul Fadus, gave us a call to let us know that his band, Boplicity Jazz would be playing under a tent over at Fairfield Hills. We have never heard Boplicity play, so we thought we'd take a ride over and we're so glad that we did.
When we arrived to Fairfield Hills, we noticed all these signs along side the entrance road that said, "Victory Garden". We spotted the tent almost immediately and made our way over to it. It was located quite close to where the Organic Farmer's Market is held on Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

We quickly realized that the tent was set up in front of The Victory Garden and that a celebration was going on to celebrate The Victory Garden and the people who helped to make it possible. Speeches were given by Pat Llodra, the Town Selectman, Harvey Pessin, one of the organizers of The Victory Garden in Newtown, and Amy Mangold, Director of Newtown Park and Recreation.

For those who don't know, The Victory Garden is a 10,000 square foot garden located at Fairfield Hills. Local residents are responsible for maintaining their portion of the garden. All items grown in the Victory Garden are distributed to the Faith Food Pantry, Newtown's Social Services and other local places to help those in need of food. This was the first year that The Victory Garden was in effect and it generated 2,800 pounds of vegetables!
We applaud those who helped to make The Victory Garden in Newtown possible and to all those who maintain The Victory Garden in Newtown to make it a viable source of food to those in need.
