5K Rooster & Lobsters

Two Newtown, CT annual events are upcoming in June 2009:

  • 22nd Annual Lobsterfest:  will be held June 5th and 6th at the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire Department on Riverside Road, Sandy Hook.  Advance tickets cost $22.00/each and $24.00/each at the door.  This is an event that many town residents attend.  Go early for better parking.


  • 35th Annual Rocking Rooster 5K Run/WalkNewtown Park and Recreation will be holding its annual Rocking Rooster Run/Walk on Saturday, June 6th.  Run/Walk begins at 8:30 am and leaves from the Reed Intermediate School.  All proceeds to benefit Newtown Scholarship.  Click here for the registration form.


  • The Newtown Rooster Rally:  This event will be held on Saturday, June 13th, from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm on Main Street.  The purpose is to celebrate Newtown.  Come celebrate your favorite rooster articles, memorabilia or activities.

Hot Dog Cool Cat Contest for Sunshine Kids

Hot Dog Cool Cat Contest is raising funds for the Sunshine Kids Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to children with cancer. Established in 1982, the SSK Foundation is committed to providing positive group activities and emotional support for young cancer patients. The Sunshine Kids provides a variety of programs and events, free of charge, for kids who are receiving cancer treatments in hospitals across North America.

Sunshine Kids FoundationPrudential Real Estate Affiliates adopted The Sunshine Kids Foundation as their network charity in 1991. Prudential Connecticut Realty adopted The Sunshine Kids Foundation as a company charity in 2002. Since then, we have raised more than $700,000 through charity events and donations. Young cancer patients at Connecticut Children's Medical Center have enjoyed trips to Hawaii, Washington, D.C., New Orleans and New York City.

Prudential Connecticut Realty's Newtown Office is holding the Hot Dog Cool Cat Contest to riase money for the Sunshine Kids.  The SSK Foundation will receive 100% of all entry fees from our "Hot Dog Cool Cat" contest.  The 2009 goal for the Newtown Office is to raise $2,500 for the SSK Foundation.

Contest Rules and Dates:

May 25, 2009:  Deadline for submitting photos.

May 29, 2009 to June 29, 2009:  Voting on the finalists at http://www.hotdogcoolcatcontest.blogspot.com/

June 30, 2009:  Winning Dog or Winning Cat will be announced.

Contest Rules:

  1. All entries must be submitted by May 25, 2009.
  2. Each entry will be $25 with checks being made to: Sunshine Kids c/o Melissa Riley, Prudential CT Realty, 33 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470.
  3. Please include your contact information and your pet's name.
  4. You can submit as many dog or cat photos as you wish, but each entry must be accompanied by a $25 entry fee.
  5. Entries can be submitted as a photo (with your contact information on the back) by mailing to: Prudential CT Realty, 33 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470, or emailed in jpeg format to mriley@prudentialct.com The $25 entry fee can be mailed or dropped off at the same location.
  6. All photos become the property of Prudential CT Realty and can be reprinted without permission.

Hot Dog Cool Cat Contest

The winning dog or winning cat will be awarded a 2-panel Warhol style photo, on a 22" x 13" stretched canvas. Value is over $200!Hot Dogs and Cool Cats will be judged based upon:cuteness factor, cleverness and originality. Judges will narrow down the entries to the 3 top dogs and 3 top cats.The dog and cat finalists will be posted on http://www.hotdogcoolcatcontest.blogspot.com/ by May 29, 2009 for voting through June 29, 2009. All entry fees will go to the Sunshine Kids.
