The Inn at Newtown, Newtown, CT

To many long time residents, The Inn at Newtown is still the Hawley.  The Hawley Manor was the name of this business from approximately 1930, when Mary Hawley died, until 1999 when the establishment was sold to the current owners.

The Inn at Newtown is comprised of several distinct parts:

  1. The Tavern:  The more casual part of the restaurant.  Get a table by the windows in front & watch life in Newtown.  The bar is also located in this area.
  2. The Restaurant:  The more formal part of the restaurant.
  3. The Fairchild Room:  Great space for a private party.  Weddings.  Birthday parties.  Graduation parties.  Banquets.  Business dinners.  Anniversaries.  Church socials.  Family reunions.  Sports team dinners.  Bereavement dinners.
  4. Proud Mary's:  Open Friday and Saturday night.  Proud Mary's has a separate entrance from the parking lot side of the building.  The fireplace with seating, make for a cozy place to have a drink
  5. Outdoor Dining:  During the warmer months, enjoy your meal AND eat outside on the deck.

The Inn at Newtown is centrally located on Main Street - just Sorth of the FlagpoleThe Inn at Newtown holds wine tasting events, has special Holiday menus and great hamburgers with tabasco onions!

The Newtown General Store, Newtown, CT

The Newtown General Store, Newtown, CT  We recently posted a blog, Pictures of Newtown, CT.  The photos posted are all iconic Newtown, CT images, but one of our favorites, is The Newtown General Store.

The Newtown General Store, Newtown, CT

The Newtown General Store is a local deli and is like taking a step back in time.  When walking up to the front door, you'll notice the benches on either side of the front door and the large windows.  You can look inside to see who is eating at the front tables & wave to those you know.

The wide plank wooden floors are uneven and show the age of the building.  The high ceilings and the centrally located counter with the candy jars bring back memories of years gone by.  There is a builletin board at the front of the building filled with business cards and flyers of upcoming events in Newtown.  The newspaper stand is also located in the front of the store - right by the entry door.

As you walk toward the ordering counter in the rear of the store, you'll pass the coffee center.  Grab a cup to sip while on line for your food.  As you continue toward the rear, take a moment to look at all the items for sale on the wall of shelves.  Items range from earrings to Newtown items to vintage reproductions of old time items.

The sandwich board is above the ordering counter.  It shows such favorites as "The Flagpole", "The Hawleyville" and the "Sandy Hook".  Egg sandwiches of all kinds are a favorite.  You can order a platter of sandwiches or a large grinder.  They recently had a sign up for football specials.  Specials are posted daily, as well as the soups of the day.

Chips are located across from the counter.  Cold beverages are located along the wall as you go up to pay at the centrally located counter.  If the tables in the front are full, you can generally find one in the rear of the store.

The Newtown General Store is a town favorite.  It's centrally located on Main Street - just North of the Flagpole.  Parking is out front.  Staff is friendly.  Food is great and plentiful.  Call ahead to 203 426-9901 so your food will be ready when you arrive.  We look forward to seeing you at The Newtown General Store, Newtown, CT.
